CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS
Here are some sources for current watch and warning information.

College of DuPage's Severe Weather Wire - A favorte here at marylandweather.org, it refreshes a list of issued weather watches and warnings every two minutes. This features warnings from across the country.

StormDisplay - A map interface showing weather watches and warnings on a county-level basis for the entire United States.

SEVERE WEATHER PREDICTION
There are several tools out there that will attempt to predict severe weather. At best, though, they predict a general area where severe weather is likely, and by no means can say that a particular weather event will occur in a particular location. They can give you an area of the country to keep an eye on, though.

Lifted Index
- (National Map, from Unisys)
Mid-Atlantic Lifted Index - (Negative numbers in one area are a classic sign of impending severe weather)

Lightning probability map - Something of a lightning forecast.

GOVERNMENTAL RESOURCES
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Weather Service offer many tools for monitoring severe weather.

Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK - Issues most of the storm watches in the United States
National Hurricane Center in Miami, FL - Does most of the work tracking hurricanes and plotting the strike probability maps you see on TV.
Hurricane Naming Chart - Names of hurricanes for the coming years, plus information about how and why names are retired.
